In short

The main alternatives to Covenant Eyes are Ever Accountable and Accountable2You, which also report your activity to a partner, Canopy, which filters explicit images and lets a partner approve changes, Apple’s free Screen Time with a passcode someone else holds, and on-device tools like Consurgam that block without reporting to anyone. The real choice is the approach: should another person see what you do, or should protection stay on your phone?

Two different ideas of protection

Most Covenant Eyes alternatives are not really alternatives to the brand. They are alternatives to one of two ideas.

Accountability through reports. Software on your devices records what you do online and sends it to a person you chose, your “ally” or accountability partner. The idea is simple: most of us act differently when we know someone will see. Covenant Eyes, Ever Accountable and Accountable2You work this way. Some of them also block.

Protection on the device. A filter or a pause sits between you and the content, and nobody gets a report. Apple’s Screen Time works this way, and so does Consurgam. You can lift Consurgam’s own pauses yourself; it only becomes firm once another person holds the Screen Time passcode.

Canopy sits in between. It filters first, and a human or AI “Ally” has to approve when you try to lower your protection.

Neither idea is the right one for every man. The table helps you compare. The section after it helps you choose.

What each one does well

Covenant Eyes has been around for about 25 years, according to the company, and has a clear human model: one person you trust walks with you. Its pricing page also lists courses and a community. Screenshots are, by its own description, blurred, distorted, encrypted with AES 256-bit security and deleted after 30 days. On iPhone, screenshots are limited to Safari, and the company itself advises combining its app with iOS Screen Time limits and app restrictions.

Ever Accountable is built on reporting, not blocking. Nothing is blocked unless you turn on its optional filter. Your partner gets a weekly report, and the company says it alerts on uninstall attempts. It also offers paid coaching plans.

Accountable2You deliberately takes no screenshots, so your partner never sees graphic images. It reports browsing, including private and incognito browsing as the company describes it, plus app and device activity, and flags trigger words. It does not block anything.

Canopy is mainly a filter. It analyzes images and removes explicit ones in real time, also inside some apps, so it can catch things a domain list misses. Its Ally feature puts a human or an AI between you and any attempt to switch protection off. Much of the product is aimed at parents.

Screen Time costs nothing and is already on your phone. With a passcode only someone else knows, it gives you a real barrier without any data leaving for a third-party service. Setup is on the page block porn on iPhone.

Privacy: what leaves your phone

A report can only reach your partner if your activity leaves your device. That is how monitoring works, not a flaw. It does mean you are trusting a company with a record of the most private corner of your life. Read the privacy policy before you install anything.

Here is what the makers say on their own pages. Covenant Eyes encrypts screenshots and deletes them after 30 days. Ever Accountable says it holds ISO certifications for information security and privacy, and describes your activity as “temporarily made available” to your partner. Accountable2You says all communication is sent over TLS, it captures no screenshots, and you can exclude sensitive apps on Windows, Mac and Android. Canopy says it does not sell data and does not keep user data permanently.

Consurgam goes the other way: no account, no tracking, no reports to anyone, not a partner and not us. Your entries stay on your iPhone. The one exception is an optional cloud backup that you switch on yourself, encrypted on your phone so that we cannot read it.

When monitoring is the better choice

Be honest with yourself here. Reporting software is the better fit for some men.

  • You have switched off your own blocks more than once. If every barrier you build, you also take down, a person who simply sees what happened adds weight that no filter has.
  • You know you would shade the truth. A check-in where you report on yourself only works if you tell it straight. If you know you would not, choose a tool that tells it for you.
  • Your marriage needs it for a season. After a disclosure, some couples choose reports so trust can grow on facts and not only on words. Decide that together, ideally with a counselor. More on that conversation: telling your wife.
  • A counselor or program asks for it. Then follow that plan.

On-device protection fits better if the idea of being watched pushes you deeper into shame and hiding, if you have no one you could ask to read reports, if your phone also holds work data that should not leave it, or if what you need most is a moment of friction rather than an audience. You can also combine both: a filter with a passcode someone else holds, plus someone you talk to honestly once a week. That conversation is what an accountability partner is for, with or without software.

Free options, honestly

There is no free version of Covenant Eyes, Ever Accountable, Accountable2You or Canopy. Ever Accountable has a 14-day free trial, Accountable2You 10 days, Canopy one week. Covenant Eyes has no free trial but a 30-day money-back guarantee, which the company says does not cover purchases made in the App Store. Free, permanently, are Apple’s Screen Time and the barriers you set up with it. For a Mac, a Windows PC, Linux or your home router, consurgam.com/protect has setup pages where the person you trust keeps the administrator password.

In Consurgam, which launches with the Lent cohort on Ash Wednesday, February 10, 2027, the emergency core and the retreat lock stay free, always.

If you are a believer

Covenant Eyes speaks openly as a Christian provider: its community offers encouragement and prayer, and its site says it is endorsed by the American Association of Christian Counselors. Consurgam has a path rooted in Catholic faith and a second, equal path without religious language. Whatever you choose, software is a fence, not a conversion. What changes a man is usually slower: honest words with another person and, if you believe, with God.

Questions

Is there a free alternative to Covenant Eyes?

Apple’s Screen Time is free on every iPhone. It can filter adult websites and lock app installs, and if a friend sets the passcode, you can’t undo it alone. It sends no reports. None of the paid apps has a free plan. Ever Accountable offers a 14-day trial, Accountable2You 10 days, Canopy one week. Covenant Eyes has no free trial but a 30-day money-back guarantee, which per the company does not apply to in-app purchases.

What is the best Covenant Eyes alternative for iPhone?

It depends on what you want. For a partner who sees your activity, Ever Accountable or Accountable2You. For strong filtering with a gatekeeper, Canopy. For privacy and no reports, Screen Time with someone else’s passcode, plus an on-device tool. Covenant Eyes itself advises pairing its iOS app with Screen Time limits and app restrictions.

Does Covenant Eyes take screenshots on iPhone?

According to its pricing page, Victory by Covenant Eyes takes screenshots on iOS only in the Safari browser. It says screenshots are blurred, distorted, encrypted with AES 256-bit security, and deleted after 30 days.

Can my accountability partner see everything I do?

With reporting apps, your partner sees what the app reports: websites, apps and, depending on the product, screenshots or a timeline. With Screen Time and Consurgam, the other person sees nothing automatically. They only know what you choose to tell them.
